Classroom Rules and Procedures

Welcome to class!  My name is Coach Harman.  This is my 20th year of teaching and coaching and I am the Athletic Director here at UMA.  I have also been the Vice President of a YMCA and General Manager of a Golds Gym.

I have a BS in Human Development, a BS in Physical Education and an MA in Recreation Administration.  I also am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator with the National Strength and Conditioning Association.  I have also been a personal trainer and I compete in bodybuilding and also work as a fitness model.

Class Rules

  • Water or sports drink in a secure bottle only.
  • No food.
  • No horseplay.

Class Procedures

Following are the class procedures for the weightroom:

Class Entry

Show up and line up at attention by the cafeteria door.  At the tardy bell enter the cafeteria for the dynamic stretch routine.

Classroom Behavior

You are expected to be fully engaged in your training program while in class.  It is appropriate to socialize with your classmates but it is your responsibility to ensure that socializing is occurring in the process of working out and that it is not a distraction or deterrent from working out.

Horseplay is completely inappropriate in class because it is a serious safety issue.

Cell phones are NOT allowed but wireless earbuds can be used for music while working out.

Food is not allowed in the weight room and drinks are only allowed if it is in a sealed container.  Sugars damage the machines and food trashes the room and makes it an unpleasant place to workout.

Hall Pass Policy

You will be allowed to leave the weight room to use the restroom but you MUST use the hall pass.  You will be allowed to go one at a time.  You will never be allowed to leave the weight room/cafeteria area to get a drink so make sure you bring your water bottle to class every day.
