Microscope Practice Lab

Today we will experience using a Microscope for the first time.  Slides are delicate, and can cut, so it is important that you follow instructions.  Place the microscope on a stable surface where someone won't trip on the cord while walking.  Remove the cover. Plug it in and the light should come on.  You will be assigned a slide.  Place it on the stage.  Try to orient the object you will view into the light, and secure it with the arms.  Use the 4x magnification first.  Focus with very small movements.  Use your dominant or best eye to view through the microscope and close the other eye.  Once you have your item focused, try to draw what you see.  Describe it in at least one sentence.  When you have completed your drawing, put away your slide, unplug your microscope, lower the stage and leave the 4x magnification down.  Cover the microscope with its dust cover.
