Instructions

Objective:  To be able to convert the unit of the mole to mass (g) and to atoms (u).  You will need a copy of the mole conversion formulas, located in the lesson,  to convert the following problems.   Each cadet must show all math, use the correct units for each answer and cancel common variables in each problem.

  1. Write the type of conversion of the problem.
  2. Show all math.
  3. Find the molar mass (FMU) for the formula.
  4. Cancel the common variables.
  5. Write the answer with all the correct units.

Example:  This is the format you need to use for full credit.

Atoms (u) LaTeX: \longrightarrow Mass (g)

Atoms (u) given |    1 Mole         | FMU (g)

                           |  6.02 X 1023 u |  1 Mole

Molar mass (FMU)  for Cooper  =  1 Cu X. 63.5 =  63.5

Remember the word molecule is the same as atoms for the conversion formulas.

Avogadro’s Number = 6.02 X 1023

For the Molarity problems:

 M = \frac{n}{v}      or        M x v = n

M = molar concentration
n = moles of solute
v = liters of solution
